Why Dr Ajay Bajpai Wrote Vedic Sanskar: From Garbh to Growth

A mother once sat across from Dr Ajay Bajpai in his clinic, exhausted, and asked a question that stayed with him for years. “Doctor, I am doing everything the books tell me to do. Why do I still feel lost?”

He did not have a quick answer that day. But that question became the seed of this book.

A Pediatrician Who Kept Noticing the Same Gap

Dr Bajpai has spent years treating children, not only their bodies but their minds. Alongside his MBBS and DCH, he completed a fellowship in pediatrics and a diploma in child psychology, because he kept noticing that medicine alone was never the full answer parents needed.

Some parents worried their child was too stubborn. Others could not understand why their child cried so often or threw tantrums that seemed to come from nowhere. What he saw, again and again, was not a lack of love. It was a lack of direction. Parents today carry an enormous responsibility, often without a map to guide them through it.

That realization is what led to the birth of this book.

Parenting Does Not Begin With the First Cry

In Vedic tradition, parenthood begins long before birth, with a sankalpa, a conscious intention, with garbha sanskaras, with the quiet awareness that a soul is on its way. Dr Bajpai did not want to write another checklist. Parents do not need one more list of dos and don’ts. What they need, he believes, is a companion, something to remind them that parenting, in its deepest form, is a dharma, a sacred responsibility.

In these pages, he has gathered the wisdom of Ayurveda, the rhythms of the lunar calendar, the chants of Vedic mantras, and the tender customs of everyday homes, Godh Bharai, Valaikaapu, the soothing hum of lullabies, the blessing of a Janma Shloka. None of these are presented as rules. They are offered as possibilities, gentle ways to weave depth and meaning into the journey from garbh to growth.

Memories That Held More Weight Than Any Textbook

Dr Bajpai writes not as a scholar detached from life, but as someone who has sat beside grandmothers humming during dusk, who has watched mothers whisper to their unborn children, who has seen fathers stand steady during labor like Vasudeva carrying his Krishna.

“Would a reader recognize, in their own childhood, a proverb repeated so often it became part of who they are?”

These memories, uneven and imperfect, still hold weight, he says. He hopes readers pause mid-page and think of their own elders, a ritual insisted upon, a story that lingered. Those are not separate from parenting. They are parenting.

A Book for Every Home, In the Language That Feels Like Home

Vedic Sanskar: From Garbh to Growth is available in both Hindi and English, because this wisdom was never meant to live only in one tongue. Whether a parent reads Ayurveda’s guidance in the language their grandmother spoke, or in the language their own child will grow up speaking, the intention behind every page remains the same.

Dr Bajpai does not promise perfect answers. Sometimes readers will nod along. Sometimes they may think, but my family did it differently. That, he says, is fine. That is the point. Parenting was never one straight path.

In the end, this book is only an invitation, to make parenting a prayer, not just a task.
