Heirlooms

Categories , Tag
Heirlooms is a conceptual poetry book in modern poetry. This book reimagines heirlooms as objects connected to emotions and experiences instead of objects passed down through generations of families. Each poem is an heirloom, a truth waiting to be passed down and found. The main themes are trauma, assault, abuse, identity, and love. The concept is that everyone enters life as a whole and over time goes through mind-shattering experiences and comes out broken. But in that brokenness, there is wisdom and truth that give life to everyone’s own set of heirlooms, objects they want to pass down. Reading this book helps readers rediscover their own heirlooms and understand themselves better. Inspired by the broken constellation Argo Navis, the book’s structure is interconnected and has three sections blending together poems, illustrations, riddles, QR codes, explanations, and heirlooms assigned to each poem. Heirlooms is a debut collection that demands engagement and offers the opportunity for readers to relearn their truths.
